Our first day at the beach, 07/09/08

That Sunday we went to the beach with our new friend, Jun (the mathematician visiting from China). We had previously acquired a bus schedule for the bus that went out to the beach (ligne 106) and planned to reach the bus stop by 11 p.m. The bus stop is down by Odysseum, the area of town with an ice skating rink, planetarium, and movie theatre. So, we met Jun in town and headed to Odysseum. When we arrived at the bus stop, ligne 106, we met an older woman, very weathered by the sun, who told us about the general Grande Motte area (in French, of course).

It took us about 20 minutes to get to the main beach. We went into town, bought some water and beer and headed down to the beach area by the pier. We played in the water a bit and then sat on the rocks, where we met a couple fishing. We practiced our French with them for a little while and ate some pbj's that I had made earlier. Afterwards, we wandered around the city some more and decided to stop at a creperie since Jun had never eaten a crepe.

We explored the city a little more, but decided to head back to Montpellier, so we wouldn't miss the bus and be stranded out in Grande Motte. (The last bus left at five, but we left around 3 p.m.)
