This is novocin.com/andy/, and I'll be keeping my stories here.
In my brief internet time right now (July 29th 2008) I can tell you where we've been so far:
We had a flight through Dublin to Munich on our way to ISSAC 2008. Because the layover was so long in Dublin we took a zombie-like trip into town and sampled Dublin in a few hours. This was a really neat experience since otherwise we would have just waited in the airport for 8 hours or so.
Next stop was Munich. We decided to spend a few nights in
Munich, because Sara has always wanted to see it. It was worth the extra
night.
Everything is different, but always in little ways. There were lots
of cool things to see and we hit a few Bier Gartens. In fact we stayed
on Franziskaner Strass!
Then was the math conference in Linz, Austria. You can tell it's a smaller town because I had to name the country it was in. We met lots of math guys, and we got invited to several places around France to give talks and crossbreed research topics! The conference site was an old castle (Hagenburg) that had been slightly modernized on the inside. Lots of cool flowers in Austria, and even nice hillside landscapes. Oh yeah the banquet was held on a boat on the Danube! That was cool!
Next up we took the train to Kassel, Germany. By now we are becoming very good at figuring out public transportation in Germany. Here in Kassel is a Computer Algebra Group which has my friend Ruben in it. We'll be staying here at the House Heinemann (in a guest room for rent) for the month of August. We don't have Internet but we do have a cell phone (0157)7771-5945.
But for the last week in July I am staying without Sara in Dusseldorf visiting Juergen Klueners, another math guy who studies all the things that I like most in math. If we can find a project to work on together then we can apply for a German grant at somepoint in the future to come back and live in Germany for a semester or two.
I should really go back to working on that now. I'll update again, maybe soon.
